On Saturday April 30, 2005 we did
not have a ride scheduled, but that didn’t stop me. Bob and I had a
soccer game with our 14 year old boys in the morning over in Lake Orion.
My youngest, Max, was having his first Little League baseball game at 4:00
pm that same day. Diane agreed to drive Max to the game so that Bob and I
could ride our bikes over to Hart to watch part of the baseball game and
then ride home. It was a little cool, but still nice enough for a bike
ride.
I rode over to Bob’s house around
3:00 pm and we headed off. We headed toward Rochester and rode around a
while before we started north. We ended up almost to Stoney Creek metro
part before we came back west to the baseball field. We got there just a
couple minutes after 4:00 pm. We only missed the first half inning and we
stayed and watched a couple full innings. The game wasn’t looking good.
The pitcher on the other team was a tall thin boy that threw the ball hard
with confidence. The weather was starting to cool off a little and it
appeared we might be in for a little rain, so we decided it was time to
head for home. When we left the score was 5-0 and Max’s team was losing.
Going home we headed straight west
on Tienken. This ride is always a good work out due to the hills. The
majority of this ride is uphill. Luckily the rain held off and we stayed
dry for the entire ride home.
Shortly after I got home Max and
Diane showed up. Obviously the game was over. I asked Max how it ended
and he told me they lost 18-0. That didn’t surprise me the way the first
half of the game went. I was confused a minute later when Max told me he
scored the winning run for his team. Apparently he was just joking about
losing 18-0. Once Bob and I left the game took a complete turn and Max’s
team tied it up at 6-6, and they ended up winning 7-6 in the bottom of the
last inning and Max did score the winning run. I guess I was just bad
luck at that game and I’m glad I left in time for them to catch up and
finally win.
Following are the statistics from
this ride; 18.7 total miles, 27.5 max speed, 10.5 average mph and 1 hour
and 46 minutes total time moving on bikes.
