Sunday Sep 2, 2007 Pete, Steve and I
did an early morning bike ride. This day Steve and Pete rode over and met
me at my house at 8:00 am. Usually I am the one that rides the extra
distance to meet them over at one of their houses. Again, we had great
weather for this weekend morning ride. The day was still fresh and just
waking up when we started. It was quiet during the initial portion of our
ride, not many people out and about yet.
We went through the back of my
subdivision to Tienken which we took west to Squirrel Road where we went
south toward Auburn Hills. We were looking for a place to have
breakfast. There is a restaurant called Spargos or something close to
that name near Kinko’s in a small shopping center. We passed up a
McDonalds on the way, we wanted something a little better than McDonalds.
To our surprise Spargos was not open when we arrived. Now we had to come
up with another place. There were a couple police officers standing
outside Beaners coffee shop. Pete rode up to the officers and said
something like, hey you guys like to eat doughnuts and go to breakfast
places can you give us a recommendation of a nearby place to eat
breakfast. The police ended up being good guys and they ignored Pete’s
smart-alecky comment and told us about a Coney place on Opdyke and Martin
Luther King Blvd.
We ended up going to the Coney
place. I order a bagel and cream cheese, Steve got a farmers omelet and
Pete got pan cakes. The food was decent, at least it was better than
McDonalds. The food came quickly and eating with Steve and Pete is a
quick experience, so we were in and out in no time.
After breakfast we continued south
on Opdyke to where the Clinton River Trail (CRT) crosses. We hopped on
the CRT heading east and took it for a few miles. We went passed Adams,
then passed Hamlin, then passed Crooks to Livernois where we cut north to
Walton. On our way to Walton we cut through the Rochester High School
parking lot to cut off the corner. Now we were close to Greek Island and
we ended up taking our regular route through side streets back toward
home. I split up from Steve and Pete a couple blocks from Pete’s street.
I rode the last two miles to my house alone. Again, another simple but
fun bike ride ending early enough to have most of the Sunday still ahead
of us. I think my family was still sleeping by the time I got home.
Following are the ride statistics
from this day. 19.2 miles total, 26.0 mph max speed, average speed 11.8
mph with time on bikes of 1 hour and 36 minutes.
