Monday April 9, 2007 was a holiday
from work and I got the day off. It was Easter Monday, the day after
Easter. I was also scheduled to take vacation the rest of the week,
Tuesday through Friday, so hopefully I would get in a couple more rides
this week. For a while Diane and I were planning to take the family south
for a vacation this week, but those plans never materialized and we ended
up staying home. I decided to take the days off from work even though we
decided not to go any where. I have a lot of vacation time to use up and
because it was scheduled I decided to still take the days off.
On this day I ended up doing a short
ride by myself. It was around 9:00 am and I was the only one in the house
awake and up. I was bored and wanted to get outside. Our family cat
Gizmo got out of the house and ran away a few days earlier. Diane and the
kids seemed upset that the cat hasn’t come home yet so I used this as an
excuse to ride around the neighbor hood looking for the cat. A couple
days ago Max and I put up lost cat signs on street and stop sign posts in
the general area. As I rode around the area looking for the cat I noticed
all the lost cat signs seemed to be holding up well.
After I rode around the neighbor
hood for a little while without any luck spotting the cat I decided to
ride to the bank to do some banking business. The bank I use is located
at the Adams and Walton area. I went to the drive up ATM on my bike. I
had never done this before on a bike and it worked out quite well. It is
easier to use the drive up ATM on a bike than a car, easier to reach the
buttons.
After the bank I headed east to
Brewster Road which is actually heading further away from home. I figured
why not get in a couple more miles by taking a round about way home. I
went north when I got to Brewster and took it all the way to Dutton. I
stayed on Dutton past Adams and pedaled my way through Musson elementary
school parking lot looking for the cat again before returning home. After
looking around Musson for a couple minutes I rode in from the back of the
sub which is the opposite way I left the sub earlier, this way I could
look for the cat in this area as well.
This ended up being a nice slow
quiet ride by myself. I ended up going a total of 10.5 miles, maximum
speed of 20.0 mph, and average speed of 9.9 mph with a time on bike of 1
hour and 3 minutes.
