Wednesday August 2, 2006 Pete and I
did an after work evening ride. The weather was perfect and we were both
looking to do just a nice short ride somewhere to get out for a little
exercise.
Pete rode over and met me at my
house for this ride. We headed west toward Auburn Hills. We went through
the back of the subdivisions near my neighbor hood. We ended up on
Squirrel just north of Walton. We debated between stopping for a slurpee
at 7-Eleven or ice cream at the Dairy Queen on Walton or University, this
same street has two names depending where you are. We picked the Dairy
Queen. We each got some sort of ice cream treat before starting to ride
again.
To kill a little more time we rode
over to the campus of Oakland University (OU). We rode around OU for a
little while and then we headed over toward the golf course where Pete’s
son and fellow bike club member Paul works. Paul and a couple other
fellow employees were out sitting in golf carts that they had just
finished cleaning up. We stopped and talked to the guys for a few
minutes. Pete asked Paul if there was any water left over from the day.
Paul grabbed a couple bottles of water and gave each of us one. It was a
warm night and the water hit the spot at that point in our ride. After
talking to Paul and his friends it was time to get back on our bikes and
let the guys finish up their jobs.
On the way home we took Brewster all
the way to Dutton and Pete and I spit up at Dutton. Pete went east and I
went west toward our respective homes. It was a relatively short ride,
but still nice to get out on the bikes.
Following are the statistics from
the ride, 10.7 miles total, 24.5 max mph, 1 hour and 1 minute time on
bikes and 10.5 average mph.
